Description
Summary:The FYP was to develop an educational tool application, based on a previously built Android application that allows physical connectivity between an Android mobile device and a DSLR camera. The educational tool application will enable the host device to transmit images from both the DSLR camera and the device itself to connected peers wirelessly. Annotations can also be done to the images before transmitting, the host should be able to annotate on overlays created on top of particular images and the overlays should also be sent and be displayed on the peers’ device. The application can also generate histograms from images via the DSLR camera and transfer captured images from the DSLR camera into the Android device’s file system. Android’s Wi-Fi Direct was leveraged on to create the wireless connection and communication from host’s device to peers’ device in a 1-to-many model. The annotation tool and the histogram generation tool were done using the Android SDK with 1 component in the annotation tool utilizing a third party utility library. Transferring of captured images from the DSLR camera to the Android device was an add-on function utilizing the protocol already created in the previously built application. The components of the educational tool application were developed individually and integrated into the previously built application. At the end of the project, the educational tool was completed with the project objectives and requirements met duly. However, there are recommendations of future enhancements to the application so to further improve the quality of the application.
