Local culture that has played a great part in building our unique identity is gradually being lost with each new generation of Singaporeans. Chinese/Teochew Opera reminds me of my late grandmother and how she always emphasized the importance of such traditions and preserving culture through the generations. Two videos are presented in this project: one on culture and one on family. For the video about culture, I took a video of myself in the process of learning Chinese/Teochew Opera: from make up to singing lesson to performance. For the video about family, I included my late grandmother as well as my father. These two videos run on simultaneously with sound in Teochew dialect, with a still photographic self-portrait in between.
