A name embodies values, personality and an identity. To the Chinese, it is more than just a label. I always feel that the Chinese name serves a purpose - it helps to unravel a person’s character. Nowadays, amongst the younger generations of Singaporeans, the use of Chinese language has been reduced as a spoken and written skill since most teens are adept in a English-speaking society. This goes for Chinese names too. Many would find having a Chinese name is insignificant to them as they feel that some would have difficulties in remembering it or it is behind the times in calling by their Chinese name. This paper would discuss on using a different methods of reviving on the significance of Chinese names and demonstrate the importance of it, to allow people to understand and appreciate their Chinese name.
