Description
Summary:This report documents work in progress for a 38 pages comic project, entitled Gust, carried out over last 3 semesters before graduation. Gust is a solo comic project with participation of an external writer – another final year Animation Major, Zurianah binti Hashim, while I illustrate all visual materials. An adventure drama comic set in a fictional post-apocalyptic desert, Gust is also an intensive concept design project started with an animation preproduction process, and ends with a product in comic book form, in which materials produced in the porcess are equally compatible and can be adapted into animation, film or other mediums. Comic, a visual storytelling medium using sequential illustration, shared great common language with films and animations. Unlike animation, comic uses layout and space to convey time, instead of animating, comic artist stages and illustrates scenes and characters. Storyboarding becomes the core and most intensive process of a comic, both in pre-production and production stage. Through Gust, I aimed to explore cinematic framing and creative intra-panel relationship (layout design), as well as conventional visual storytelling language from both comic and film.
