Summary: | People who suffer from mental illness are often misunderstood as deviants of the society. Amongst the many misconceptions present is that those suffering from mental disorders will never fully recover from the illness, creating a highly problematic and prejudiced standpoint on the matter. Such stigma has resulted in deterioration in condition for many who are battling mental illnesses, creating a vicious cycle that often leads to other health and social problems.
“One Day at a Time” is a series of therapeutic activity books created for youths aged 13-18 years old that suffer from depression, other depression-triggered mental illness or are simply at risk of becoming so. Focusing on completing a single activity each day that is targeted at their energy and creative level, youths will find their negative emotions and thoughts channelled towards being and creating.
Drawing strength from ordeals and trauma, one can be moulded and made stronger with time. Thus, there is a need to recognize these merits of undergoing trials in order to begin a new cycle of recuperation. As with any process of creation, there is hope and renewal in one’s journey through trials and adversities, highlighting the beauty and strength of the human spirit. Hence, this project hopes to emphasize on the creative energy en route recovery from mental disorders, focusing on taking things one day at a time. |
