Description
Summary:Mankind has been on an endless pursuit of progress and evolution. Studies in social sciences have shown that generally, people yearn to make their everyday lives easier and strive to be happy. The optimistic yet naïve idea of Utopia has existed ever since civilisation began, with one of the earliest conceptions from Plato’s “The Republic”. The word “Utopia”, coined by Sir Thomas More in 1516, describes an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. More specifically, it describes a society with desirable socio-political-legal system though there are a vast variety of utopian circumstances. To the layman, utopia is simply “paradise”, a perfect world to live in. The ideal urban landscape, to me, is a delicate balance between utopia and dystopia. It is about finding a practical and realistic solution to an idealistic fantasy world.
