Summary: | A beggar girl with a passion for dance desired nothing more than a beautiful pair of shoes to frolic in.
However, due to her ragged appearance, she is constantly denied entry into the shoe shop on the hill.
Despite her difficulties, she continued to care for an old blind beggar down the street by bringing him
food every day. The old beggar used an old tin can as a drum, hoping to attract the attention of passers-by,
but without much success. One day, a partnership of skills enabled her to put up a street performance with
him, allowing her to collect enough to afford a pair of shoes. She ran back up the hill eagerly.
Upon seeing the amount of money she held in her can, the shopkeeper reluctantly let her into her store
where she picked three of her favourite designs to try on. Immediately, she entered her fantasy world,
abandoning all her worldly concerns. She starts to dance.
She decides to purchase the blue boots, . However, her conscience pricked at her as the boots were
being packed. As she thought of someone who needed the money more than she did, the sound of drum beats
echoed in her head. She ran out of the shoe shop without paying, angering the shop keeper. She will not be
welcome in that shop again.
She walked down the hill slowly, thinking about the sacrifice she was going to make. She had never
held so much money in her life. But when she saw the old drummer, all her doubts disappeared.
“This is the right choice,” she thought. She bent down and emptied the entire contents of her can into
his wooden begging bowl. |
