Summary: | Blaming the Victim is a 30-minute radio documentary which explores victim blaming attitudes towards sexual assault victims. Victim blaming is a phenomenon where blame is partially or fully attributed to a victim of an assault. These attitudes may sound outrageous but the reality is that many sexual assault victims are, to this day, still blamed for their own attacks. The documentary examines why people have victim-blaming attitudes, how these attitudes are perpetuated and why victims often blame themselves for their own attacks. It also highlights some common misperceptions of sexual assault such as who its victims and perpetrators are. This report chronicles the rationale, production process and challenges faced in the creation of the documentary. |
