Summary: | The rise of smartphone in the past four years has been a very swift one. This advancement of technology has not only revolutionized the mobile phone landscape, but also changed people’s interaction and relationship with such mobile gadgets. As we praise smartphone for the convenience it brings to daily life, some people’s growing reliance and emotional attachment to such gadgets start to become worrisome. Also, experts start to doubt the effectiveness of the connectivity smartphone has built, as they point out that while smartphone helps one connect better with a group of people, it also disconnects one from others nearby.
With its top ranking in smartphone penetration rate (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, 2012) Singapore has felt the immediate impact of the changes brought about by smartphone. Therefore, this project chose to focus on the phenomenon in Singapore to examine into the various adverse social impact of smartphone, with the aim to raise awareness among the smartphone users and advocate for a more balanced life style, before the negative impact of smartphone starts to set in and hurt the users’ health and real-life relationship. |
