Description
Summary:The aim of this project is to study the evaporation characteristics of saturated and unsaturated recycled materials. For this study, two types of recycled materials were used, recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) as well as recycled asphalt pavement (RAP). These are the two construction and demolition wastes which have been studied for the design of landfill covers. To understand the trend of the evaporation test results better, the soil’s basic properties have to be known. Common tests were performed to study these properties of the recycled materials. Sieving was carried out to determine its grain size distribution, the Tempe cell apparatus was used to obtain the recycled materials’ soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC). The saturated coefficient of permeability was measured using the Triaxial permeameter. Finally, column evaporation tests were carried out, with a lamp controlling the climatic condition, to study the evaporation characteristics of both RCA and RAP with different initial conditions (unsaturated and saturated).
