Summary: | Energy usage in this developing world is steadily increasing. In recent days, the number of industrial buildings and large residential compounds and the equipments installed inside which to provide the necessities or comforts have dramatically
increased. It has become a real challenge to meet the growing energy demand while reducing its impacts as people are not just facing the increasing energy cost but also the greenhouse gas emissions and global warming with urbanization and rapid
population growth. These changes have a significant impact on the growing demand on electricity and the effective energy management has become important than ever. When the electricity demand rise extremely high it may results the demand to exceed supply and eventually turns out to power outages.
A commercial building is a significant member of energy consumers and in a highly urbanized countries like Singapore with many huge buildings, an intelligent building energy management system can effectively reduce the energy demands while
maintaining the comfortable indoor environment. The aim of this project is to design and develop a graphical user interface to monitor, control and manage the power usage for a particular building to optimize the energy consumption. The system developed during this final year project considers the use of renewable energy resources, shifting of load from peak to off peak periods, employment of the battery power and shedding of interruptable loads based on the priority settings and demonstrates a reliable and practical Intelligent Building Energy Management
System(IBEMS). This provide an optimization of energy consumption by monitoring and controlling energy usage of various equipments inside the building without affecting the comfort level of the occupants. |
