Description
Summary:This project evaluates the benefits of the green roof in terms of rainfall, runoff and rainwater retention. The experimental green roof was set up on the rooftop of Block N1 School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. There are two green roof units and one control roof unit, each with an area of 4 m2. Rainfall and runoff data were collected from 10 September 2012 to 30 September 2012 and from 10 December 2012 to 14 March 2013. Fifty rainfall events were selected and the runoff hydrographs indicated that the green roofs were able to produce a lower runoff discharge than the control roof. In addition, the green roofs were able to fully retain the rainwater in nine out of fifty rainfall events. Overall, the green roofs produce lower runoff discharge and runoff depth, and retain a high percentage of rainwater (72.15%).
