Summary:This paper examines the political activism of Chinese Indonesians in the post-Soeharto era. Following the end of the New Order, with the opening up of public space, there was renewed interest in politics among the Chinese Indonesians. However, Chinese Indonesians still shy away from politics. This paper looks into this issue from the framework of identity. It examines the continuity and change in Chinese Indonesian identity in the post-Soeharto era and how identity can explain Chinese Indonesian approach to politics in the post-Soeharto era.
