description |
The ever increasing demand in electricity has led to more fossil fuel being burnt for electricity generation. It has also caused environment degradations such as global warming, which leads to an increase usage of air conditioning. This creates a vicious cycle, causing more environment problems and strain on our non-renewable resources over a long time. Fortunately, solar energy has become more popular in recent years, as it is a green and renewable energy source. It has been used in many applications, such as spatial heating and cooling, to reduce our reliance on fossil fuel.
The aim of this project is to study the benefits of using a solar powered adsorption cooling system and its possibility of replacing the conventional compression air-conditioning system. Commercial adsorption cooling system is usually large and involves numerous mechanical valves. Therefore, this project will also explore the possibility of using a non-mechanical valves system and its size reduction. Another aim of this project is to improve the existing design and performance of the adsorption cooling system.
This project will include the fabrication of the prototype hardware, which will consists of the evaporator, desorption chamber, heater and external circuit that can help to improve adsorption cooling system. Experiments are conducted to understand the heat transfer involved in adsorption cooling and assess the improvements made to the system. |
