Description
Summary:Iron reducing bacteria are a group of bacteria capable of utilizing iron and oxidized organic matter at the same time. Therefore, it is considered a potential and feasible way for bioremediation of organic contaminant. In this study, iron reducing bacteria were enriched from two samples collected from Lorong Halus dumping ground and a food waster reactor. The enrichments were able to reduce both soluble and insoluble iron substrate, although the reduction rate for insoluble iron is much slower. 12 isolates were isolated from the 4-month enrichments. Citrobacter freundii and Escherichia coli were isolated from the dumping ground sample and food waste reactor sludge respectively.
