Summary: | Loop antennas are commonly adopted in military use to find the direction of arrival (DoA) of an incoming signal. The DoA can be obtained with sufficient data and proper calculation. However, the quality of the signal power is usually significantly affected by the noise and the loss in transmission line. Therefore, this project follows up last attempt to match the impedance of antenna with transmission line in order to mitigate the reflection loss.
In this project, the DoA estimation principles were studied at the first place. After that, three studied was conducted covering single wavelength impedance matching, narrowband matching and broadband matching. Two pairs of matching circuits were fabricated based on the design and the results were tested using network analyzer.
The comprehensive study, backed by observations from the experiment, indicates that broadband matching circuit is not feasible unless the circuit is tunable and the signal channel can be adjusted manually. |
