Description
Summary:Increasing CO2 emissions have become a global concern nowadays and demand for electrical energy also has increased significantly. Therefore, renewable energy sources have prominent place in the energy market. During past few decades, wind power cause clean revolution in the energy sector and become one of the most resourceful sustainable technology around the world. Large scaled wind farms have been installed in both onshore and offshore. The variable speed wind turbines are predominantly deployed in WECSs which are driven by Doubly Fed Induction Generator. Actually, conventional power converters are also required to enhance further with suitable control schemes because of the rapid growth of the wind turbines power rating. This report presents a study of wind turbine conversion and existing generation systems. Moreover, analysis has been done on various control methods applied on power converters of the wind turbine system. This project is mainly focussed on Direct Power Control (DPC) method for a DFIG based wind power system. The proposed control scheme is applied for direct active and reactive power control of grid side converter by using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation technique. Matlab/Simulink/ SimPowerSystems digital simulation platform is used to model and verify the implemented controller. And then in order to evaluate the simulation results, performances of designed controller were analysed theoretically. Furthermore, the conclusion and recommendations are described in the end of the report.
