Description
Summary:Current AC distribution system will no longer be the same with the penetration of clean energy and the increase demand of DC based mobile device. Many future distribution system have been proposed by researcher and one of the common proposal was Hybrid AC/DC grid. To control the Hybrid grid, the technique that commonly used was AC/DC bi-directional converter. In this report, some of the fundamental knowledge and technique required for designing an AC/DC Bi-directional Converter is explained. The controller is designed and modeled with Matlab, Simulink along with the plant system, an AC/DC hybrid grid. The system designed is simulated with Simulink to study its performance. First, the control system was tested using an open loop control were the reference value is set by the user. The testing was done in 2 of the converter mode: grid-tied inverter mode and grid-tied rectifier mode. Then, the close loop control of the system was also tested. The performance of the control system was analyzed. Some of the characteristics of the control system were discussed based on the result. Others alternative to design the control system were also discussed.
