Summary: | Filament wound composite drilling risers are usually subjected to various pressure and axial loads while operating under higher water depths in offshore operations. One of the major parameter which has direct influence on the strength of the riser is filament winding angle. In this study, four moderately thick-walled Carbon-Epoxy filament-wound composite tubes with different winding profiles were tested under pure internal, pure external and tension loads to investigate the influence of winding angles on strength and deformations behavior using finite element software ABAQUS. Three different winding angles were used in each specimen with 3cm thickness and 56.4cm outside diameter. The four winding profiles used in the analysis were (15°-450-80°), (15°-55°-800), (250-45°-750) and (25°-55°-750) with 48 layers across thickness. |
