Summary: | Injuries and fatalities induced by falls in older adults are becoming an increasing trend, especially in modern societies like Singapore with an aging population. The immediate moments after a fall are critical as it determines the seriousness of the injury and whether the faller lives. Therefore, a wide range of applied research has been carried out to develop monitoring devices which can alert the early stages of fall.
The emergence of Microsoft Kinect as a motion sensing input device for use in gaming have since prompted the investigation and research into the potential of it being deployed beyond its intended purposes. This project focuses on the understanding of the Kinect sensor, as well as explores the possibilities of Microsoft Kinect being used as a home monitoring system. |
