Summary: | Cooling device has been playing significant role in cooling high heat generation component in compact and portable electronic devices. The objective of this project is to generate airflow of 1.2 litres/sec and a pressure difference of 50 Pascal across a device with volume of 60mm by 60mm by 6mm for efficient heat dissipation. The conceptual design in this project was based on the Dyson's Air Multiplier working mechanism which uses airfoil profile to generate entrainment effect. Three airfoils with different properties namely NACA 2415, NACA 23015 and a Coanda airfoil similar to NACA M16 were chosen for study. The airfoils prototypes and test rig were manufactured for experimental purposes. In the experiments, 0.215 litre/sec motive air supply at the inlet was passed through the prototypes airfoils surfaces at varied angle of attack. Entrainment effect did occurred and the highest flow rate obtained was 1.088 litres/sec across the Coanda airfoil prototype, which achieved 91% of the objective at 13 degree angle of attack. The pressure difference recorded across the device was around 3 Pascal which met 6% of the criteria. Flow visualization result also showed that with the assistance of airfoil, the airflow was directed smoothly from the inlet to outlet. |
