In real time power measurement, every instance of current and voltage of devices can be monitored and then the power consumption of each appliances are easily estimated which will help customers for avoiding energy wastes and optimum usage of electrical supply. In this project, 1500W hair dryer will be used as a sample to measure the real time current, voltage and power usage of home appliances. There will be two developments, hardware and software. In hardware development, current measurement and voltage measurement of hair dryer will be carried by using current transformer (CT) and voltage transducer (VT) which will then be used in power calculation. There are three sub modules in current sensing part: 1) current sensor module, 2) operational amplifier module, and 3) rectifier module. Similarly, voltage measurement has three sub modules 1) voltage transducer module, 2) low pass filter module and 3) bridge rectifier module. And then both current and voltage signals will be safely connected to arduino Uno through analog inputs. The final results of arduino will be transferred into PC via xbee wireless communication. At the same time, current, voltage and power data will be seen by the user via graphical user interface (GUI) using labview software and the data will be logged in the form of excel sheets in a specific location in a computer. Thus, real time power measurement method is designed and developed with required specifications.
