Solar UAV : propulsion system : selection of motor and propeller for MALE UAV

This report examines the works of the propulsion system selection for the solar UAV and seeks to enhance the test methodology to obtain a more accurate classification of the performance of the propeller-motor combination. The theoretical sizing of the system is re-visited and a Turnigy G110 brush...

The theoretical sizing of the system is re-visited and a Turnigy G110 brushless outrunner motor was selected in place of the AXI 5345HD/18 brushless outrunner motor. The set-up was tested in the open circuit wind tunnel with similitude and blockage corrections. The proposed test matrix cannot be test completely due to heating issues of the motor. A post analysis was carried out and improvements are suggested in relation to the propeller, motor and test set-up for future conduct of the classification tests.
