With the necessity to explore into deep sea, composite material is seen as the next generation of materials for manufacturing the production risers. Being a relatively new material to the marine industry, testing for composite risers has not been widely developed. This report cross referenced from existing metal riser standards to design a test rig that is suitable to perform collapse failure testing on scaled down composite riser specimens. The designed test rig aims to identify the first sign of collapse failure on the scaled down composite riser specimen by hydrostatic pressure. Therefore, this report also looks at the available sealing methods as well as using seal technology that is used in hydraulic cylinders. Hydraulic piston has been modified to fit into the design as a sealing device which aims to simplify the assembly and manufacturing process as well as making it cost efficient along with its reusable function. The sealing device makes it simple when it comes to testing of many specimens. Instead of using pipes with flanges on every specimen, which takes up time to screw all bolts and nuts, the sealing device can be removed and ready to use from one specimen to another within minutes. In the last part of this report, detail calculation and design will be reviewed.
