Description
Summary:Industrial standards such as ASME B31.8 and API 5L contain no specific information about the impact of mill tolerance and geometrical angular misalignment orientation variations. The author seeks to investigate and analyze these variables’ impacts on offshore pipeline system such as jumpers. Through parametric variations in pipes’ mill tolerance and geometrical angular misalignment between straight pipes and/or pipe fittings, deductions were made. Presence of mill tolerance would cause substantial increment and decrement in hoop stress and longitudinal stress of jumper’s pipe. In addition, presence of geometrical angular misalignment could cause possible increment in von-mises stress and vertical displacement. Hence, in the presence of mill tolerance and geometrical misalignment, more considerations should be made in terms of reviewing stress and displacement values.
