Summary: | Eutrophication has been on the rise significantly in the recent years due to an increase in the amount of human activity such as agriculture, manufacturing, fertilizers and pesticides which contribute significantly to the eutrophication from surface runoff of rainfalls. Eutrophication causes the oxygen level in the affected waters to decrease significantly and this results in huge loss of marine life in those waters.
Extensive studies of eutrophication can be found on freshwater systems but however, for coastal waters eutrophication is not so common yet and this project aims to study on coastal waters eutrophication with emphasis on Singapore, Jurong island where it has the highest potential for eutrophication to happen.
Flow-3D is the software used for this project to simulate the hydrodynamics of the waters in Jurong island, it is hoped that by understanding the hydrodynamics of Jurong island, the author could analyze and assess the severity of eutrophication and also make recommendations to prevent eutrophication from occurring. |
