總結:Compressive strength and permeability are often the two important parameters in determining improvement in engineering properties of clay in geotechnical engineering practice. Through this paper, a comprehensive study on these two parameters is made. The study is divided into two segments. The first segment primarily focuses on the feasibility of using lime to stabilize marine clay and the variation in permeability and compressive strength of lime-treated marine clay under different conditions. Three major factors affecting strength and permeability characteristics are explored in this study, namely lime content, curing temperature and curing period. Based on the analysis of the strength and permeability of the lime-treated clay, the best lime content to treat clay is determined. The second segment explores the option of using lime-treated marine clay as potential replacement for fine aggregates (originally sand) in concrete. The sand to lime-treated clay ratio is varied to derive the best concrete design mix.
