Description
Summary:This study aims to investigate the factors that affect the strength and integrity of the aluminium cans. Specifically, the resilience of the aluminium cans to external damages under different conditions. This study is conducted in two parts and this report will cover the theory, tests, results and discussions of the second part. The second part of the study looks into how external boundary conditions can affect the crushing integrity of aluminium can and also the contribution of internal boundary conditions to the resilience of the aluminium can to external indenting damages. Through the study and observations made by the author from his trip down to Crown Holdings manufacturing plant and from a similar study previously conducted by John D. Reid, the author was able to define the basic properties of an aluminium beverage can and also theorised the possible factors and parameters that may affect the indentation and crushing properties of the cans. This enabled the author to clearly define the sample types and size to be tested. Next, a comprehensive coverage of the experimental flow, design and execution of the tests conducted on the chosen sample types will illustrate how well does the theory of the author hold with respect to real-life experimental tests. Following the experimental process would be the analysis of the results obtained from the tests and discussions on whether the results obtained validates or defeats the theory set out by the author. This report will conclude with a section of conclusion drawn forth from the comparison between the theory and actual test results of the study by the author which will also include the author’s recommendations made for the benefit of any future studies to be conducted relating to this study.
