Profiled steel decking acts as a temporary formwork during the construction stage which supports all construction loads and dead loads. It stabilizes the supporting beams against lateral buckling and also provides a working platform for construction activities. The investigation of the behaviour of the profiled steel deck will be conducted on the RF-55 re-entrant steel deck with 2 different thicknesses namely 0.75mm and 1mm sponsored by M Metal Ptd Ltd. The RF 55 Cold-formed steel profiled deck consists of a unit trough width of 600mm and a height of 55mm. A total of 6 specimens were tested for the experiment. The specimens were categorized into 2 sets of 3 each with different thickness. The experiment was conducted on specimens with effective length of 1500mm. There are generally 4 modes of failure for the profile steel deck - Shear failure at end support, Moment failure near mid-span region, Section failure over internal support under combined action of web crippling force and hogging moment, Section failure over internal support under combined action of shear force and hogging moment. This report will focus on section failure under combined actions of shear force and hogging moment over the internal support. After obtaining the failure capacity of the profiled steel deck under combined actions of hogging moment and shear force at the internal support, comparison will be made between the experimental values and the theoretical values derived from BS EN 1993-1-3 and BS EN 1993-1-5. In addition, comparison will be made between the RF 55 profiled steel deck and a similar deck (i.e. M-dek grade 550 light grade) to determine which profiled steel deck has a better performance.
