Brazing is a metal-joining process which is widely used in the aerospace industry. It is required in various engine components, actuators, sensors and other aircraft parts. The quality of the brazements, therefore, is crucial in maintaining the structural integrity of the aircraft, for safety and efficiency.
The International Standard Organisation (ISO) plays a big role in setting standards of quality and consistency in many industries. In this paper, the focus is on ISO 11745: Brazing for aerospace applications — Qualification test for brazers and brazing operators — Brazing of metallic components. In order to allow the user or examiner to conduct and qualify the brazer/
brazing operator with simplicity, an expert system application using the FileMaker® Pro software has been developed. The important factors and considerations stated in ISO 11745 have been integrated into the system and are discussed in detail in the subsequent chapters of this paper. |
