The system provides high sensitive three-dimensional shape profiles using a novel multi-grating phase shifting method and is designed to perform 3D profile measurement on any types of object conveniently due to the nature of the system. But as technology advances, upgrades to the system are required to bring the system further up a notch. The new system consists of two Charge-Couple Device cameras to capture images and a digital light projector to project fringe patterns to obtain 3D results. The system will be controlled through the interface of the software known as “Fringe”. The Compact Fringe Projection Profilometer will only require one type of calibrations which is the camera calibration with an active phase target using a Liquid Crystal Display. The Compact Fringe Projection Profilometer will be put to a repeatability test for evaluation of reliability of the system. The results of 3D measurement will also be used in comparison with Mitutoyo Height Master measuring machine of a rapid prototyped sample according to Computer Aided Design drawing. The final result concluded that the designed Compact Fringe Projection Profilometer was able to carry out 3D profile measurement and providing good 3D results that is accurate to a high extent with high precision.
