Summary: | The main purpose of this report is to a conduct a techno-economics study on Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) in Semakau Island in Singapore. The study which will be conducted in this report will be done in the form of simulations using HOMER (Hybrid Optimisation Model for Electric Renewables) software developed by NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab) of USA. The key feature in this project is the study of geometrical scaling effect of wind turbines and solar panels on the optimisation process of a HRES. The study is conducted by first identifying the optimal wind turbine and solar panel models. Follow by that, the sizing of HRES using the optimal models are conducted. The result of the study showed that by varying the wind turbine tower height, wind turbine rated power and solar panel system size optimised result can be obtained. This is effectively the process of optimisation taking into account of geometrical scaling effect. Finally, the effect of types of energy composition, land usage and land cost to the overall cost of the system will be discussed. |
