It is important that we start to tap into the resources of renewable energy to prevent extensive damage to our planet as well as the depletion of natural resources. In this report, we focus on one of the emerging economies, India, and integrating renewable energy sources into the pre-existing grid through the usage of smart grids. The integration will be investigated through the simulation carried out by HOMER software and optimal systems will be obtained based on cost of energy as well as emission levels. The selected area for simulation will be in Madhya Pradesh, India, with a targeted population of 0.001% of the state’s population, at about 730 people. Renewable energy sources to be considered for integration into the pre-existing grids are solar energy and wind energy. Demand side and supply side managements would also be looked at in this report. Sensitivity analysis would be carried out to see how the suggested systems would change with variable global inputs such as fuel prices, increasing load demands due to economic expansion of Madhya Pradesh and variable environmental inputs such as wind speed and solar radiation. Game theory model is proposed to further enhance the reliability of renewable energy sources when integrated to the pre-existing grid. In conclusion, this paper incorporates economic factors into the simulation obtained by HOMER making the simulations more feasible and accurate for the consideration of implementation into the pre-existing grids. The results in this paper would aid in feasibility studies of integration of renewable energy sources into pre-existing grids.
