Description
Summary:The purpose of the study is to promote a greener society by cutting down on electric consumption as power generation will produce greenhouse gases. One of the methods to reduce electric consumption is by reducing the usage of air-conditioners. This can be achieved by optimizing the double skin roof and hence, increase the buildings’ heat insulation. To optimize the double skin roof, various parameters such as the air gap, angle of inclination and the usage of radiant barrier have been tested. The results shows that the double skin roof at a tropical climate is optimized with the following setting; air gap of 10cm, 45o of inclination and the addition of radiant barrier. These finding have significant implications for the commercial application of future roof design. It appears that with the improved design of double skin roof, the temperature of the room decrease by more than 5oC. Hence, it will have a vast improvement in the existing design of the double skin roof.
