Summary: | Drying is one of the most essential factors when it comes to preserving food, other industrial uses and more. However, since drying uses the combustion of fuels, the limitation in fuel resources or other resources to burn to produce energy required for drying had led mankind to look for alternative form of engine that has less dependence on fuel. With pulse combustion drying proving to be an effective method on drying, the Stirling engine has been called upon to tap on the potential use of the heat energy produce from the pulse combustor as its heat source rather than it is loss to the atmosphere. In this experiment, we will see the use of the Rijke tube as a simulator of the pulse combustor in industries while the Stirling engine is designed to be attached onto the tube and create mechanical means to help in the rate of drying. Soaked soya beans and green peas were used as the products to be dried in this experiment. This study can be used to see the effectiveness of using the Stirling engine as an alternative engine to combustible engines. |
