Description
Summary:Every layered composite pipe is designed to ensure safe and reliable performance during its operational life span. Through investigation on the collapse failure of the pipe, unnecessary catastrophic accident can be averted. Apart from safety and reliability, it also promises uninterrupted business operation to the organization. In the analysis, the composite pipe was subjected to external pressure only. ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL), a computing tool, was utilized to model the cylinder and assess it based on Finite Element Method, providing numerical collapse pressure values that reflect the changes in behavior. These values were compared with those obtained through theoretical analysis which was calculated using Microsoft Excel in Appendix A. Analyses conclusively showed that the results provided by ANSYS were very close to the theoretical values. Furthermore, the geometrical and load parameters were investigated. Based on the analyses, the winding angle and types of fibers materials played a vital role on the collapse pressure.
