Summary:Many improvements of biomedical materials have been done to improve the lives of the elderly as well as the injured. Understanding biomaterials is of great importance as it will help in reducing wastage of materials and also reduce the cost of manufacturing. This project aims to investigate the reciprocating wear behavior of Ti-6Al-4V as the main material and a type of bulk metallic glass as the second material in conjunction with chromium steel ball head. V studies of varying load and frequency were done with a constant amplitude and temperature. Friction coefficient, wear rate and surface morphology of both the disc samples were recorded for investigation and analysis. Wear rate measured using different experiment machines and tribology was done with CSEM Tribometer. The surface morphology of samples before and after the tests was examined by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Material composition of bulk metallic glass was also checked using EDX. Results shown were consistent for friction coefficient and wear rate and recommendations were given on how to further improve the experiment.
