Weight and space constraints prove to be a challenging problem onboard an UAV. In order not to compromise the performance of the system, a suitable form factor will have to be chosen. The author conducted a research and compare the different types of form factors currently available in the market to determine its suitability for the radar application onboard an UAV in this project. PC/104 is proven to be the best solutions onboard UAV due to its compact size, light weight and ability to withstand harsh conditions. More importantly, the stacking nature of PC/104 and the readily available plug-and-play modules reduce time and cost on project development. As a result, it was concluded that PC/104 based Computer Processing Unit (CMA22MVD1860HR-2048) and Power Supply (ATX104HR-EXPRESS) are identified for its application in this project.
