Investigation & experiment of radar system in unmanned arial vehicle (UAV) - IX

In this project, the radar system is expected to be mounted onboard an Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV) to conduct imaging and moving targets detection under various conditions. Weight and space constraints prove to be a challenging problem onboard an UAV. In order not to compromise the performance of t...

Weight and space constraints prove to be a challenging problem onboard an UAV. In order not to compromise the performance of the system, a suitable form factor will have to be chosen. The author conducted a research and compare the different types of form factors currently available in the market to determine its suitability for the radar application onboard an UAV in this project. PC/104 is proven to be the best solutions onboard UAV due to its compact size, light weight and ability to withstand harsh conditions. More importantly, the stacking nature of PC/104 and the readily available plug-and-play modules reduce time and cost on project development. As a result, it was concluded that PC/104 based Computer Processing Unit (CMA22MVD1860HR-2048) and Power Supply (ATX104HR-EXPRESS) are identified for its application in this project.
