Sound localization and tracking system
Localization for speech is one of the advanced technologies for localization within a small range of area. It takes advantages of the related positions between one acoustic source and multiple signal receivers to estimate the positions of source as well as track it. This project “Sound Localization...

Localization for speech is one of the advanced technologies for localization within a small range of area. It takes advantages of the related positions between one acoustic source and multiple signal receivers to estimate the positions of source as well as track it. This project “Sound Localization and Tracking” works on such a system and discover the factors that affect the performance of it. The system is based on digital signal processing (DSP) and mathematical calculation.
The target of this project is to develop an indoor sound localization and tracking system with user-friendly interface, portable devices as well as affordable cost. Meanwhile, the system is designed to be fast-responding in real-time.
The localization algorithms are the core of the system. They are GCC algorithm for signal processing, LM algorithms for non-linear square problem search and Kalman Filter for result enhancement. To study them, in the beginning a simulation experiment is conducted. Results are collected and analyzed. After that, a real-time system is setup in order to proof the functionality of this system.
The study on algorithms has broadened the methodology used for localization and the real-time system can contribute to the future development on detailed applications with such technology. |
