Soong Boon Hee School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering This report consists of two parts of the final year project. This project works with digital television signal. The first part is a system design portion, while part two is a programming cum site survey portion. In the system design portion, we plan and design a method to stream television from Singapore’s transmitter station using IP packets. We discussed the equipment considered and involved in the system. The project is partially successful as only wired part is able to process the video with any major problems. However, setting the system up wirelessly resulted in high error rate and high delay so much that consumers are not being able to watch the video. Suspected causes of the problem are also discussed in the report. In the second portion of the project, we programmed a software using LabVIEW, a graphical software developing tool, to data log signal parameters from a digital signal measurement device called the TV EXPLORER. Also, a GPS receiver is included in the setup as the data can be mapped out on a map during post processing. The block diagram, commonly known as the code is explained in this report. Problems faced are pointed out in the report. Last but not least, we utilized the program to do site surveys. We did a survey around NTU campus and did evaluation of the received signal power level here. Also, using a different kind of antenna and a good location, we did a data log worth 24 hours using the program. Results show that a better antenna with a good location will result in greater received signal strength. A HDB block survey is done to study the effects of multipath effect. As there are lesser structure buildings as we go up the levels, the received signal strength increases.
