Ast/Prof Chow Kin Kee School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering Fiber Optics Sensor (FOS) has been one of the hottest topics in the sensors field of study where FOS has many rooms for exploring into new ideas, new findings, new applications and new improvements. In this report, the main focus is on the RI based tapered type of FOS and the understanding of the FOS technology is the vital in order to fully understand each of the mathematical models meanings and how a FOS determine its sensitivity. MATLAB software is introduced to aid in modeling the relevant outcomes and effects in the FOS. Several practical experiences will be gained in the later part of FYP, which will mark the completion of the whole of study relating to FOS technology. At the end of the report, a short study of how localized detection can be implemented in some of the applications.
