Summary:Metal enhanced fluorescence of a dimolecule such as Rhodamine-6G was studied using Gold nanorods as the noble metal particle. Gold Nanorods of aspect ratios varying between 2 to 4 was synthesized using the seed-mediated growth. Rhodamine 6G was immobilized onto the silica coated Gold Nanorods via electrostatic interaction. The Metal Enhanced Fluorescence (MEF) of Rhodamine 6G was observed which was found to be dependent on the Aspect Ratio of the synthesized Gold Nanorods and also on the silica spacer thickness, which attained its maximum enhancement when the silica spacer was 12 nm thick. A 3.5 fold increase in the fluorescence intensity was observed.
