Summary: | With the global food shortage, many have moved to high tech farming methods to improve the output yield each year. The light source is identified to be one of the major factors in the growing process of a plant. Once the light source is controlled, weather will not affect the growth of a plant. The grow time of a plant can even be shorten if the light source is well controlled. Therefore, this project discusses the development of an energy efficient lighting system for vegetable plant growth.
This project is separated into 3 parts. First part includes the study of LED and LED drivers. As high brightness LED is required in this project, the structure of LED is discussed. The basic buck, boost and buck-boost LED driver topologies are also explained in this report.
Second part discusses the test to study the PPFD level of LEDs. This test helps in the selection of LEDs. While the last part illustrate the design and PCB design of this project. The future development of this system is also discussed in this report. |
