Summary: | As an emerging paradigm, Cloud Computing is able to provide a great deal of hardware and software resources to users as services over the internet. At the same time this paradigm produces new challenges for data security issues, which is the main reason limiting the wide adoption of cloud computing. Among many cyber threats to cloud computing, Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS) is especially serious due to its characteristics of easy implementation and its highly destructive effect. One of the current techniques dealing with DDoS attack is IP trace-back. Probabilistic Packet Marking (PPM) is one popular approach to implement IP trace-back. However, there are some shortcomings for this approach, and one of them is that it requires too many packets to realize the tracing work, which are not applicable in the real situation. In the project, the author does some research work to find better approach based on PPM for this shortcoming. |
