Er Meng Joo School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering This project is a study of the different methods and algorithms that go into creating a successful facial recognition software along with aiding my professor, Mr. Er Ming Joo and his PhD student, Lian Zhichao in furthering their research on the topic. For my part in the project, I had to develop an understanding of the logic and algorithms of the concepts used in the above mentioned research in the advanced concepts like Local Binary Patterns (LBP), Local Line Derivative Patterns (LLDT), Binary Coding Functions, Label Coding and Histograms, Face and Illumination Modeling, Illumination Invariant Feature Extraction, both in normal and complex conditions, Image Preprocessing and Normalization, etc. and based on that understanding, convert programs in MATLAB to C++ to help simplify the job for Lian. I worked on MATLAB and C++, along with the OpenCV (version 2.2) libraries and MS Studio 2010 to accomplish the goal of the project. The codes from both MATLAB and C++ are demonstrated in the Appendix of this report.
