Summary:For R&D into new and energy efficient HVAC designs, it would be of great interest and benefit if we can have a more complete understand of the physiology of thermoregulation, both to understand how air flow (as opposed to static air humidity and temperature) and its impact on human comfort and performance. This project aims to develop the know-how for proper information gathering from IEQ sensor network design and implementation so as to adequately represent the indoor environmental condition and to characterize human comfort in a systematic way. Then, a formal assessment methodology for human thermal comfort can be devised and that useful human comfort indices that are suitable for tropical settings can be developed. This will have significant impacts on how new air-conditioning systems should be designed for optimal human comfort performance.
