Summary: | Artemisinin is one drug that is critically needed in the current market to treat the disease malaria. This type of drug is mostly being produced in the Artemisia annua plant. However, in many countries, the production of artemisinin by Artemisia annua plant has proven to be insufficient and many researchers have resort to looking in various directions hoping to find new ways of enhancing the overall amorphadiene production.
Metabolic engineering of bacteria such as the Escherichia Coli and the Saccharomyces Cerevisiae bacteria to produce respective drugs are commonly used. One of the metabolic engineering techniques studied in this report is the creating of new plasmids through combination of the important genetic information and injecting them in to these groups of bacteria cells to enhance production level.
The steps taken to conduct the experiment will be mentioned in the later part of the report. In addition, the various types of laboratory equipment and their respective roles will also be revealed. |
