This can be challenge without a shielding enclosure. Even with an enclosure in place, the shielding effectiveness can be compromised by slots, apertures, which are used for heat dissipation, cables and displays. In this Thesis, we study about how the insertion of apertures and slots affects the shielding effectiveness of a aluminium enclosure which is powered by a half-wave dipole antenna. The report provides details on the projects’ theoretical background, illustrating the research carried out by the author on the various parameters affecting the efficiency of the experiments. A detail discussion on the design and software simulation process has been provided. The two main sections are, firstly to design the various experiments carried out, so that each experiment presents valuable information on how shielding effectiveness can be hindered by various parameters. Secondly, to carry out multiple simulations in the software, CST for each experiment in the 30 to 5 GHz frequency range, so that the results can be analyzed and compared with theoretical calculations. By doing so, the author aims to make useful conclusions on how the shielding effectiveness of an enclosure can be affected by cavity resonances as well as its apertures.
