Description
Summary:A novel low cost digital beamforming concept is proposed theoretically and experimentally in this project. The digital beamforming is the key technology that not only for modern radar but also for the future wireless communication. However, its popularity is limited by the high cost of the components, for example, the Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC). The single pole N-throw pin diode switch is used in this project to reduce the RF hardware in the antenna array. This project also includes the time division multiplexing Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) concept to guarantee high resolution. An antenna array with 2 transmitter antennas and 11 receiver antennas is designed and assembled to verify the new concept though several experiments. Meanwhile, beamforming algorithms and radar calibration methods are also discussed.
