The initial part of the report will describe why solar energy is becoming very important to the human race, the different types of solar cell that exist in the context of solar engineering, and why the Dye Sensitized solar cells, or more particularly the Quantum Dot Sensitized solar cell, are being focused by the student in this project. The intermediate part of the report will concentrate on how the Quantum dot sensitized solar cell is being fabricated by the student; the steps and procedures of the fabrication explained in detailed, problems faced during the fabrication and how they were resolved. Main materials such as the TiO2 nanostructured semiconductor and CdS quantum dot semiconductor were used for this project. The last part of the report will emphasis on how the fabricated quantum dot sensitized solar cells will go through testing and analysis, in particular using the SEM and Surface Profiler machine. The solar cells will also be characterized by characterization prober machine (using the solar simulator) to test their I-V relationship. Discussions will also be given. Finally, recommendations will be proposed by the student to improve the Quantum dot sensitized solar cell development. The student strongly believes that this generation of solar cell will dominate the solar industry in the coming future because of the many promises it has given to researchers and corporates alike. A conclusion of the final year project will also be given. This report will present the student’s project on Nanomaterial-based Solar Cells, in relation to the Final Year Project (EE4079) as part of the course requirement in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The report will be break into three parts.
